Who We Are

OpenTheCourt.org was created by a group of dedicated public interest advocates concerned about big business’ efforts to shut the courthouse doors to ordinary individuals so they can operate free of liability and avoid accountability for bad behaviour.  Our goal is to educate, oppose and ultimately defeat the so-called Fairness in Class Action Litigation Act, or H.R. 985 (https://www.congress.gov/bill/115th-congress/house-bill/985).

Our lawmakers will be considering a bill that will seriously jeopardize our citizens’ right to a fair day in court and we are calling on you to help stop this dangerous legislation. If passed, it will take away the practice of class action lawsuits, making it common practice for corporations to break the law and get away with it, without repercussion.

Often times, a class action suit is the only way for a group of people to get their voice heard and wrongs righted, and this bill, if passed, would put American consumers on the back burner in the battle to take on corporate wrongdoing. Yes, class action suits do have some absues like in any other part of our court system, but shutting the courthouse doors so that corporations can roam free of liability is not the answer. Together, we can fix this.

Reach out to us and join our fight. Let our voice be heard!
